Americans have not been more energized and motivated to speak truth to power and act since the Civil Rights Movement. Empowering Change is a new 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to combating systemic racism and increasing voter turnout in the 2020 election and beyond.
Given the disproportionate impact of COVID-19, the economic crisis, and longstanding structural racism on African-American and Latinx communities, it is more important than ever to exercise our voting power on Election Day. COVID-19 restrictions on traditional GOTV efforts like canvassing and large gatherings have led to voter registration goals falling short nationally by as much as 50%. Meanwhile, there are limited targeted digital efforts planned to register voters or drive turnout.
To address this gap, an impassioned group of diverse, concerned Americans has formed Empowering Change, a campaign to drive lasting impact. Empowering Change will deploy state of the art data, technology, and social media strategies to increase African-American and Latinx voter registration and turnout. Empowering Change will focus on Pennsylvania. Why PA? It is the only swing state with a new law making it easier to register online to vote (and to vote by mail.)
We’ve partnered closely with two well-respected organizations to reach this goal - When We All Vote and Hawkfish. When We All Vote (WWAV), co-chaired by Michelle Obama, is a non-partisan non-profit committed to closing the race and age voting gap and empowering all eligible voters to cast their ballot by harnessing grassroots energy, establishing strategic partnerships, and implementing digital organizing strategies. When We All Vote is changing the culture around voting using a data-driven and multifaceted approach to increase participation in elections. (More detailed information can be found in the attached overview.) Hawkfish is a political data and technology firm that uses superior data insights, cutting-edge advertising technology, and best-in-class creativity to identify, engage, and mobilize voters.
We are looking to raise $250,000 to support a digital media campaign designed to help us lay the groundwork to empower communities of color in Pennsylvania to get out the vote!
"The vote is the most powerful nonviolent change agent you have in a democratic society. You must use it because it is not guaranteed."
- John Lewis
